Weeds is a black comedy drama series which premiered on August 7, 2005 and aired on the Showtime cable television network. The show was created by Jenji Kohan and was produced by Lionsgate.

The show depicts the life of a widowed mother named Nancy Price Botwin. Mary-Louise Parker plays the role of Nancy Botwin who is a local of Southern California. Nancy is a mother of two boys – Silas, portrayed by Hunter Parish, and Shane, portrayed by Alexander Gould. In her desire to raise her children with the best as she could, Nancy ended up selling cannabis after her husband died unexpectedly. Nancy became active in her involvement in various illegal activities in an escalating manner. She started growing cannabis in her own backyard and sells them to various individuals. Nancy remarried twice after the dead of her husband. The first was with Peter Scottson, who is a DEA agent. Peter later on got killed. Then , Nancy remarries again to Esteban Reyes who is the acting mayor of Tijuana. He is also a leader of a cartel.

Nancy’s oldest son Judah later on followed the footsteps of his mother. Judah started selling drugs and grew pot on their backyard. Meanwhile, the youngest son Shane is an intelligent boy who is not very sociable. He has been greatly affected by the death of his father.
